In sport climbing the participants are not looking to reach the peak, but rather to surpass a series of steps from easy to difficult on a more or less vertical wall. To do so they use their hands and feet as their only tools and will use the rope only as a means of security.
One of the characteristics of the Val d'Aran is that 30% of its territory is above 2000 meters and although a good part of the mountains are principally alpine forests, there are good vertical walls to practice climbing. The best way to practice climbing is not short of certain risks is in a group and with a well prepared guide from the area or the wall which is going to be climbed and all of the active tourism companies of the Valley have prepared guides.
