Conangles Forest

It is one of the most important beech and fir tree forest of the Iberic Peninsula with a combination of greens offering the visitor a unique summer color. The forest is located on the southern side of the Vielha tunnel, near the old Hospital de Vielha and the Conangles mountain hostels, at the edge of the Noguera Ribagorza river. Both are open a good part of the year.

The combination of beech and fir trees offer the visitor an unique image starting near the end of spring when the deciduous trees have grown their leaves and the different tones of green mix with the suns rays. The Noguera Ribagorzana river winds joyously between the large 100 year old fir tree trunks, filling the forest with delight and the necessary humidity to produce such beautiful colors, especially in July.

From the Conangles mountain hostel known as “refugio” two interesting routes can be started. One of these towards the waterfall and the lakes of Besiberri under the North and South Besiberri peaks both of which are parts of the 3000 meter high peaks on the Aranese side of the Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park. The other trail goes up above the Hospital de Vielha branching off towards the Molières valley towards the southeast and the Port de Rius towards the north.

Montgarri Forest

In the parking of the Pla de Beret (which can be reached from Baqueira) the GR-211 trail starts on one side and a dirt road for 4×4 on the other. This later trail goes on the right side of the Noguera Pallaresa river and winds through a beautiful fir tree and black pine forest which goes beyond Montgarri.

Bòsc de Varicauba

The access to this point can be done from the villages of Gausac, Es Bòrdes and Aubert along a paved road easily navigated which penetrates the beautiful Baricauba forest with a turn off to the Bassa d’Oles (pond) and another which goes to the Artiga de Lin.

Portilhon y Còth de Barretja

These can be reached from the village of Bossost along the Portilhon highway which goes in the lush forest of fir trees mixed with deciduous tree. From its highest point, at the Coth de Baretja, there is a spectacular view of Bossost and Lower Aran.

Sauth deth Pish

Incredible waterfall 12 meters high that is located in a natural enclave of great beauty and which can be reached by car along the pretty paved 12 km long road adjacent to the Varrados river. This road is reached from the Pont d’Arròs.

Molières waterfall

At the southern mouth of the Vielha tunnel the trail towards the Molières valley begins. The trail concludes at the Molières Peak (Tuc en Aranese) at 3010 meters above sea level. This is the second highest peak in the Valle de Aran. Flora abound on this excursion.

Es Uelhs deth Joeu

The Eyes of the Devel or of Jupiter is a spectacular waterfall and an exceptional phenomenon given that the glacial waters of Anet that disappear in the Forau d’Aigualluts in the valley of Benasque and reappear near the Artiga de Lin in the Val d’Aran after travelling 4 km underground. Can be reached from Es Bordes on a paved road that is closed during the winter months due to the avalanches which fall each snow season.

From the protected platform with handrailing and from the high rocks of the waterfall we can take some fantastic photos of this multi-level waterfall. Its glacial waters and snowmelt have more or less flow depending on the season. The flow is particularly amazing during the snowmelt months of April and May. Along the access road to the Ojos del Diablo there is are parking spaces as well as a pretty picnic area with grills and tables along the Joel river banks in addition to a Restaurant.

Various sections of the Joèu river are prepared and classified for catch and release fishing. A fishing map is edited each season by the Aranese government along with tickets and permission for federated and / or associates. On various points you can observe the avalanches paths from the winter coinciding with some ravines in which fall snow melt creating occasional streams and pools along the sides of the paved road.

Salt d'Arbaet

This modest but beautiful waterfall which surprised the visitor at the halfway point of the paved road which takes you to San Juan de Torán after passing the Canejan turn off. It is a sample of many of the waterfalls that there are in the Valley that proceed the hanging valleys from which run streams which drain into the lower waters.

Archiu Istoric Generau d'Aran

The Archiu Generau Aran (Aran AG) forms part of the Xarxa Arxius of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Its facilities were inaugurated November 7, 1998, by Mr. Jordi Pujol. President of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The Conselh Aran Generau has its own management since its inception.

The A.G. Aran Aran between legal documents Conselh Generau, and according to the agreement, the other public and private institutions or that of individuals or companies who want to sell or give on deposit their documents. The Arxiu shall keep under good storage conditions and must make them available to users through descriptive instruments to become a means for the study and dissemination of Aranese documentary heritage. The Arxiu is Çò Adema, better known as Casa deth of Senhor Arròs. The building was built by Francisco Adema Subirà 1820. It has a consultation room and attention to users; filed four rooms with compact cabinets, wall shelves and cabinets plans; a reception room and selection of documents and disinfection room.
