The Pyrenades Festival takes root in Val d' Aran

From 24th to 31st March, the festival returns to Salardú (Val d’ Aran) to propose a Holy Week in the pure Pyrenean style, with a varied programme of activities for all audiences.

Anyone who wants to experience a Holy Week in which nature, knowledge, mountain cinema, music, discovery, reflection, heritage and outdoor activities are all part of Pyrenades’ proposal. For eight years now, the PyrenMuseu del Refugi Rosta (Salardú, Val d’ Aran) has organised this festival that brings Pyrenees to all audiences.

With a programme that combines the elements of Pyrenees -sports practice and scientific and humanistic exploration of the Pyrenees-, Pyrenades reinterprets its legacy today and makes it alive.

Conferences, excursions, children’s workshops, cinema and mountain music

This year, the inaugural session of March 24th will be given by Eduardo Martínez de Pisón, winner of the National Environmental Prize, with the lecture “Praise of the Pyrenees”, a journey through literature and painting in the Pyrenees. On Sunday 25th will be the turn of Òscar Cadiach, Pyrenean, mountaineer and Himalayan, who will present his book “Els 14 vuit-mils” and narrate his experiences.

Then, during the 8th Pyrenades Mountain Film Festival, you will be able to enjoy the film directed by Cadiach himself “Més enllà del Kumbhakarma”, which tells the story of the first Sherpa who achieved the 14 summits of 8,000 meters.

As usual, every night a selection of the best films will be shown at the Torelló International Mountain Film Festival. In addition, before the cinema you can discover the 360º experience of virtual reality with the Real 3D – VR Experience, emotions that will not leave the audience indifferent.

LAND ENHANCEMENT

The national parks of the church will be highlighted with the talk that will take place on Monday 26 under the title “Parc Nacional d’ Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici. Related to this theme, the documentary “Ordesa y Monte Perdido: un siglo como Parque Nacional” will be screened on Saturday 24th.

On Tuesday 27th, Marta Bretó, a professional photographer, will give lectures on how to search for light in the dark, revealing the secrets of night photography and offering a workshop to put them into practice.

Mountain medicine will also have its place with Dr. Miquel Rodríguez, a specialist in the matter who will explain on Thursday 29th, among other questions, how effective emergency action can be decisive in many cases.

PROMOTION OF ARANESE CULTURE

Towards the end of a week in which children’s workshops, walks and excursions will also be the protagonists, Aranese culture will be highlighted with the debate (El aranés, who has his language has his identity) on Friday 30th and the closing concert of the festival on Saturday 31st, where the Aranese artists Alidé Sans and Paul Courtinal will present their new album “Henerècla”.

The will of Pyrenades is to dynamize Salardú and the municipality of Naut Aran with a quality proposal that has the sponsorship of Naut Aran City Council, the support of the Conselh Generau d’ Aran and the collaboration of many entities.

The advendure saison starts in the Val d'Aran

On Wednesday 14 March, a new season of Adventure Sports is launched in Val d’ Aran, just before the start of the Easter holidays. The activities will begin with the first rafting descent with Deportur, with a group of schoolchildren walking.

In this period, snow activities: cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, are combined with rafting, hiking, adventure park Naturaran and cultural visits. The season is extended until the bridge of Pilar, October 14, which means 7 months of operation of the different facilities.

Deportur and Camins, the companies that start the season, have all their services ready for this date and for the Easter holidays, which will start on March 24th.

Exhibition "Vestir era Mòda"

The fashion of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries arrived in the Val d’Aran with the help of the Lleida and Aran Network of Land Museums, with “Vestir Era Mòda”. This is a travelling exhibition that includes some sixty pieces of clothing from the province of Lleida. The wardrobe of the population shows the social and economic change that took place in Europe at that time.

In Vestir era Mòda you can see everything from everyday clothes to elegant or ceremonial dresses, as well as accessories such as shoes, hats, parasols and handbags. These garments have survived to the present day thanks to the families who have saved them as precious assets, who have passed from generation to generation and who have finally ceded them for their conservation and diffusion to the territorial museums.

The exhibition is complemented by clothing, photographs and portraits from private collections in the Val d’Aran. It is worth mentioning a rich baptismal costume from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries made of three pieces (dress, cloak and cap) from the recently restored collection of the Val d’Aran Museum.

The travelling exhibition, which arrives at its final destination in the Val d’Aran, can be visited from 16 March to 5 May 2018, from Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 8 pm in Sant Joan d’Arties. Admission is free of charge.

TELEMARK, A MAJOR CHALLENGE

The Telemark is a ski technique born in 1825 by Sondre Norheim, considered the father of modern skiing. The most remarkable feature of this technique is that the heel is not fixed to the board, being necessary to kneel on the skis when making turns. The telemark provides greater freedom of movement than conventional mountain skiing and, due to its complexity, a greater challenge.

We leave you with the previous video edition:

“Expansión Cromática. La Naturaleza Intervenida”

Interactive art in Baqueira Beret

The Forum Square of Baqueira 1,500, will host from tomorrow the video installation “Expansión Cromática. La Naturaleza Intervenida”, by the Argentinean artist Laura Larocca, resident of the Val d’ Aran.

The exhibition opens on 22 February at 19h. Organized by B*MAI Restaurant & Art, it projects intervened images of the Val d’ Aran ecosystem on mountains built with reused materials. In this scenario, overlays, transparencies and cuts will be created. The public may participate free of charge.

Starting from an objective reality of a natural chromatic, the artist designs intervention strategies, with the intention of basically playing with colours; to achieve, through the journey, a stimulated motivation that provides the spectator with emotions, aimed at merging with the work, achieving a chromatic unity that encourages awareness of its origin and immediate reality in the environment.

“Expansión Cromática. La Naturaleza Intervenida”is sponsored by the Naut Aran City Council in collaboration with the Conselh Generau d’ Aran. The video installation will be accompanied by a small exhibition of the artist’s paintings and watercolours, with her interpretation of the local flora and fauna.

Laura Larocca’s work is composed of natural abstractions in painting, photography and installations. His works have won awards at the Salerno Biennial of Contemporary Art, and he exhibited in Argentina, Italy and Spain.  He currently lives and works in Vielha.
